GoHighLevel Voice AI Review: Costs, Strengths, Trade-Offs

GoHighLevel Voice AI review: what it does well, what a call really costs per minute and per sub-account, the trade-offs, and who should use it in 2026.

GoHighLevel Voice AI Review: Costs, Strengths, Trade-Offs

This GoHighLevel Voice AI review comes from someone who ran an agency on GoHighLevel and also built a competitor, so read it with that in mind. I will stick to what GoHighLevel documents and what it charges, and say where it fits as plainly as I can.

GoHighLevel Voice AI is a capable phone agent built into the GoHighLevel CRM: it answers inbound calls, makes outbound calls, books appointments, transfers to people and triggers workflows. It is a good default for agencies already on GoHighLevel; the trade-offs are layered per-sub-account pricing and fewer choices of model and voice than a dedicated voice platform.

I scaled my own AI agency past $50K a month on GoHighLevel, Vapi and n8n. Here is the review I would want before choosing.

What GoHighLevel Voice AI does

According to GoHighLevel's own Voice AI overview (updated 17 September 2026), a Voice AI agent can:

  • Answer inbound calls at any time, including after hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Make outbound calls for lead follow-up, appointment reminders, reactivation and confirmations.
  • Book appointments on one calendar or across several eligible calendars.
  • Answer from a knowledge base of your hours, services, pricing, FAQs and policies.
  • Act during the call: update contact details, route callers, transfer to a live person on conditions you set, and trigger workflows in real time.
  • Act after the call: send texts or emails, create or update opportunities, assign tasks and start automations based on the outcome.
  • Be tested with simulated conversations and web calls, with a Prompt Optimizer that suggests wording changes.

It requires LC Phone or Twilio numbers, and a number already used for something like an IVR cannot be assigned to an agent.

What it does well

It lives inside the CRM

The biggest strength is the one that matters most to agencies already on GoHighLevel: the agent works with the same contacts, calendars, pipelines and workflows. No webhooks to Vapi, no n8n flow to parse the result. When I ran Voice AI through Vapi, that glue was the part that broke.

Booking and post-call automation are built in

Booking during the call, live transfers and post-call workflows cover the core receptionist and follow-up jobs without extra tools.

It is easy to start

For a standard receptionist, setup is a prompt, a knowledge base, a calendar and a number. Agencies can roll it out across sub-accounts they already manage.

What setup looks like

Based on GoHighLevel's documentation, getting a Voice AI agent live involves:

  1. Writing the agent's prompt and goals, with the Prompt Optimizer suggesting wording changes.
  2. Building the knowledge base: hours, services, pricing, FAQs and policies.
  3. Connecting calendars for booking, either one calendar or several eligible ones.
  4. Setting transfer conditions for when the agent hands the call to a person.
  5. Wiring workflows for actions during and after the call: updating the contact, creating opportunities, sending follow-up texts or emails.
  6. Assigning a number. It must be LC Phone or Twilio, and not one already used for something like an IVR.
  7. Testing with simulated conversations and web calls before real callers.

None of that is unusual; it is the same work any good voice agent needs. The advantage is that it all happens inside the account where your contacts and workflows already live.

What it costs

Voice AI is billed per sub-account, one of three ways (GoHighLevel AI pricing, checked 15 October 2026):

OptionPriceVoice AI included
Pay per useNo monthly feeBilled per minute (below)
AI Employee Growth$50 a month per sub-account100 Voice AI minutes a month
AI Employee Unlimited$97 a month per sub-accountUnlimited, subject to fair use

Pay-per-use minutes are the voice engine at $0.045 a minute, plus text-to-speech from $0.015 a minute (OpenAI or Cartesia voices) to $0.170 a minute (ElevenLabs V3), plus language model tokens. Phone system charges apply to every call on every option.

Text to speech

Model tokens

The plan itself (Starter $97, Unlimited $297, Agency Pro $497 a month) is on top of all of this. For the full stack bill, read GoHighLevel pricing in 2026.

The trade-offs

These are the honest limits, all from GoHighLevel's own pricing and documentation:

  • Costs stack per sub-account. The AI add-on is priced per sub-account, phone charges sit under every call, and Agent Studio is billed separately. At 20 clients on AI Employee Unlimited, that is $1,940 a month in AI add-ons before phone usage.
  • Model and voice choices are GoHighLevel's. You choose from the voices and models GoHighLevel offers. Dedicated voice platforms and some all-in-one platforms let you swap speech, model and voice providers per agent.
  • Number requirements. Agents need LC Phone or Twilio numbers.
  • If your agents already live in Vapi or Retell, moving to GoHighLevel Voice AI means rebuilding them there.

Who should use it

Use GoHighLevel Voice AI if your agency is all-in on GoHighLevel, your clients need a straightforward receptionist or follow-up caller, and the per-sub-account pricing fits your rebilling.

Look elsewhere if voice is your main product and you want to choose providers per agent, you already run agents on Vapi or Retell, or you want deeper testing such as simulated callers with noise and interruptions, scored test sets and scheduled regression runs.

StrideOps is built for that second group: native voice agents with swappable speech, model and voice providers, your existing Vapi or Retell agents connected by API key, voice agent testing with simulated callers, and your GoHighLevel workflows imported as drafts. FAQ

Does GoHighLevel have AI calling?

Yes. GoHighLevel Voice AI agents answer inbound calls and make outbound calls for follow-up, reminders, reactivation and confirmations, and can book appointments and transfer calls to a person.

How much does GoHighLevel Voice AI cost?

It is billed per sub-account: pay per use (voice engine at $0.045 a minute plus text-to-speech and model tokens), AI Employee Growth at $50 a month with 100 minutes, or AI Employee Unlimited at $97 a month. Phone charges are separate.

Is GoHighLevel Voice AI good?

It is a solid choice for agencies already on GoHighLevel that need a receptionist or follow-up caller inside the CRM. Agencies that want provider choice per agent or deeper testing often use a dedicated voice platform instead.

Can I use Vapi or Retell with GoHighLevel instead?

Yes, through integrations, webhooks and automation tools. See how in how to connect Vapi to GoHighLevel.

Which AI Employee plan is cheapest for Voice AI?

On voice engine and text-to-speech alone, pay per use with OpenAI or Cartesia voices costs about $0.06 a minute, so it is cheaper than the $97 Unlimited plan below roughly 1,600 minutes a month per sub-account. With ElevenLabs V3 voices (about $0.215 a minute before tokens), the break-even drops to roughly 450 minutes. Growth at $50 includes 100 minutes, then pay-per-use rates apply. Add model tokens and phone charges in every case.

Which phone numbers work with GoHighLevel Voice AI?

GoHighLevel's documentation says Voice AI works on accounts using LC Phone or Twilio numbers, and a number already configured for another function such as an IVR cannot be assigned to an agent.

The bottom line

GoHighLevel Voice AI is good at what it is built for: a phone agent inside the CRM you already use. Price it per sub-account with phone usage included, not per minute in isolation, and decide whether provider choice and deeper testing matter for your clients. If they do, compare before you commit.
